To Install:

Find the downloaded PDFpen (or PDFpenPro) application.
Note: If you have PDFpen 5 and would like to keep it, we recommend you rename it "PDFpen 5" before installing version 6.
- If you're using Safari with "Open 'safe' files after downloading" turned ON in Safari Preferences, you'll find the PDFpen application in your Downloads folder.
- If you're using Safari with "Open 'safe' files after downloading" turned OFF in Safari Preferences, you'll find the PDFpen .zip file in your Downloads folder.
- If you are using another browser, you'll need to locate the PDFpen .zip file. It may be in your Downloads folder, on your Desktop or in another location, depending on what is specified in your browser's preferences. Once you locate the .zip file, double-click it to uncompress the PDFpen application.
Move the new PDFpen application from Downloads or Desktop to your Applications folder.

The download is a demo version of PDFpen (or PDFPenPro) PDF editing software. It is identical to the purchased version, except that it stamps the Smile logo within all saved and printed documents. The logo is removed from the file and subsequent printouts once the product is purchased and the associated registration information is entered in the registration dialog. Microsoft® Word export is only available to registered users. (More info and Word export samples.)

Buy from PDFpen or PDFpenPro itself. Here are the steps:
1. Select Purchase / Register... from the PDFpen (or PDFpenPro) menu.
2. Click the Buy Now button.
3. Fill in your info and credit card details, and click the "Checkout" button.
4. Verify your order details, and click the "Submit Order" button.
5. Your name and serial number are automatically registered with the product. You will also receive an email with your serial number. If you ever need to enter it manually, select Purchase / Register again, enter your name and serial number from the email and click the "Register" button.

Updates & Upgrades

Updates within a major version (i.e. from version 6.0 to 6.1) are free to registered users of that version number. Upgrades from a major version number (i.e. version 5 to 6) are charged an upgrade fee.

Upgrading from PDFpen 5.x / PDFpenPro 5.X OR earlier

You can upgrade from PDFpen 5.x or earlier to PDFpen 6.x (or from PDFpenPro 5.x or earlier to PDFpenPro 6.x) for $30. If you purchased 5.x on or after October 15, 2012, the upgrade to the Smile Store version is free. (Free upgrades are not available to the Mac App Store version.) Here are the steps:

Select Purchase / Register... from the PDFpen menu.
Be sure your 5.x or earlier serial number is entered at the top. If you don't have your serial number, click the "Email My Serial #" button to have it sent to you.
If you purchased 5.x on or after October 15, 2012, click "OK" when the program offers to check if you are eligible for a free upgrade. If you purchased before October 15, 2012, click the "Buy Now" button to purchase your 6.x upgrade.

To upgrade from any version of PDFpen to PDFpenPro 6.x, select Upgrade to PDFpenPro... from the PDFpen menu.
