TextExpander 3.1 Adds New Hotkeys for Search and Activation

San Francisco, CA -- June 2, 2010 -- SmileOnMyMac has released TextExpander 3.1, an update to its customizable typing shortcut tool for Mac OS X. With TextExpander, users can define abbreviations for frequently-used text strings and images, also known as snippets. When an abbreviation is typed, it expands automatically to the full snippet.

TextExpander 3.1 adds hotkeys to activate TextExpander and to search snippets. The TextExpander icon can now be hidden in both the Dock and the menu bar. Search has been improved with highlighting of matched text and inclusion of snippet label text in the search. Other improvements and bug fixes have been made.

A 30-day fully-functioning demo of TextExpander can be downloaded at

Upgrades from earlier versions of TextExpander are $15.00, and free to users who purchased after November 1, 2009. Mac OS X 10.6 or later is required.

What's new in TextExpander 3.1:

- Added hotkeys to activate TextExpander and to open the Search Snippets function
- Allows hiding Dock icon without showing TextExpander in the menu bar

PDFpen 4.6.1 IMPROVES POSITION ACCURACY FOR TEXT RESULTING FROM OCR

San Francisco, CA - March 31, 2010 - SmileOnMyMac has released PDFpen 4.6.1, an update to its PDF editing software for Mac OS X. Text resulting from OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is now positioned more accurately for selection and highlighting.

An occasional problem with sheet-fed scanners has been corrected, as well as an issue with drawing text annotations. Other minor improvements and fixes have also been made.

PDFpen 4.6.1 can be downloaded at http://www.smileonmymac.com/PDFpen/download.html. The update is free for registered users of PDFpen 4.x.

The changes in PDFpen 4.6.1 have also been made in PDFpenPro 4.6.1, the Pro version that has the ability to create fillable PDF forms and document Table of Contents, in addition to all the features of PDFpen.

PDFpen costs $49.95. PDFpenPro costs $99.95. Family Pack licenses, which cover up to 5 computers in one household, are $74.95 for PDFpen and $129.95 for PDFpenPro. TextExpander 3.0 Released With New Features for Quick Snippet Creation and Editing

San Francisco, CA -- March 10, 2010 -- SmileOnMyMac has released TextExpander 3.0, a new version of its customizable typing shortcut tool for Mac OS X. With TextExpander, users can define abbreviations for frequently-used text strings and images, also known as snippets. When an abbreviation is typed, it expands automatically to the full snippet.

The new version of TextExpander introduces features to make it easier to create and edit snippets. Users can define a keyboard combination, also known as a hotkey, to open a quick entry window for snippet creation. The last-expanded snippet can also be edited via a hotkey, making it easier to keep snippet content updated.

TextExpander 3 features new "fill-in" snippets. A fill-in snippet can have multiple blank fields in the snippet content that prompt for additional information to be entered manually. For example, a user can invoke a fill-in snippet for a receipt and proceed to fill in the name, product, and order number for the recipient.

New options for searching and finding snippets have been added. Users can now locate snippets via a search field in the menu bar. They can also type a few letters and then display a list of suggested matching snippets by invoking a hotkey.

TextExpander is no longer a system preference pane. The new version is an application, with an enhanced but familiar user interface. Users will still be able to see how much time they've saved using TextExpander. TextExpander 3 runs on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) only.

For users with more than one Mac, TextExpander now offers two ways to sync snippets: MobileMe and Dropbox. With a single-user license, an individual user may install and use TextExpander on multiple computers, provided they are used primarily by that individual.

PDFpen 4.5 Features New OCR Engine With Improved Accuracy

San Francisco, CA - September 29, 2009 - SmileOnMyMac has released PDFpen 4.5, an update to its PDF editing software for Mac OS X. The update incorporates the Nuance Communications, Inc.’s OmniPage® Capture SDK OCR (Optical Character Recognition) engine for greatly improved accuracy when performing OCR on scanned text documents.

PDFpen uses version 15.5 of the OmniPage OCR engine, which is recognized for its accuracy. It replaced the Tesseract open source OCR engine in PDFpen on Intel-based Macs.

In addition to the OCR improvement, PDFpen 4.5 includes other new features. Snow Leopard users can now scan directly into PDFpen from Image Capture or TWAIN scanners. SmileOnMyMac also added a new text highlighting tool which selects and highlights text in a single action.

TextExpander touch Comes to the App Store Today; SmileOnMyMac Releases SDK for TextExpander Integration

San Francisco, CA -- August 26, 2009 -- TextExpander touch, the iPhone version of SmileOnMyMac's customizable typing shortcut tool, is available for download and purchase on the iPhone App Store. The introductory price is $1.99 through September 9, when the price increases to $4.99.

With TextExpander touch, iPhone users can enter frequently-used text using short abbreviations. Once notes are composed using TextExpander shortcuts, they can be sent directly to Mail and Twitter clients. They can also be used in other iPhone apps via copy-and-paste. Each snippet has its own action menu as well; snippet contents can be sent directly to Mail and Twitter clients or copied to the Clipboard with a couple taps.

Users who have TextExpander on the Mac can share snippet groups with their iPhone via a local network. Both the Mac and the iPhone must be on the same WiFi network. Snippet groups can also be shared between devices.

Because of the limitations of the iPhone OS, TextExpander touch does not work in the background, as it does on the Mac. Notes must first be composed in TextExpander touch and then transferred to another application.

SmileOnMyMac has also released the TextExpander touch Software Development Kit (SDK), which allows other iPhone developers to integrate TextExpander functionality into their applications. The SDK consists of a free TextExpander engine library and sample code. Details are found at:

DiscLabel 6 Features New Templates, Simplified Design Process

San Francisco, CA - May 27, 2009 - SmileOnMyMac released DiscLabel 6, the latest version of its award-winning CD/DVD label design software for Mac OS X. This major upgrade features 80 additional free template sets and new powerful design tools for creating montages and generating custom designs.

DiscLabel 6 has more than twice the number of free template sets than the previous version, including 20 new template sets designed specifically for business and professional use. The design process has been considerably simplified to make it easier, faster, and more flexible. More powerful and flexible montage options have been added. A wide variety of montage layouts can be imported into a design; the montage remains editable after import, so that photos can be moved and resized within the montage.

TextExpander 2.6 Adds New Expansion Options for Greater Flexibility

San Francisco, CA -- March 25, 2009 -- SmileOnMyMac has released TextExpander 2.6, an update to its customizable typing shortcut tool for Mac OS X. With TextExpander, users can define abbreviations for frequently-used text strings and images, also known as snippets. When an abbreviation is typed, it expands automatically to the full snippet.

TextExpander 2.6 adds new expansion options. Abbreviations can now be set to expand when preceded by any character, including or excluding letters or numbers. Prior to this update, abbreviations would be expanded only when preceded by a space. The new expansion options allow expansions to occur after common punctuation such as parentheses and slashes. The expansion options are set by snippet group.

TextExpander 2.6 features new customization options as well. Users can now specify the Clipboard restore delay and the words-per-minute (wpm) rate that is used to calculate how much time is saved by using TextExpander.

PDFpen 4.1 ADDS CONTINUOUS SCROLLING PAGE VIEW FOR MULTIPLE PAGE EDITING

San Francisco, CA - March 3, 2009 - SmileOnMyMac has released PDFpen 4.1, an update to its PDF editing software for Mac OS X. The update adds a continuous scrolling view that allows users to view and edit multiple PDF pages at the same time. In the new view, images and annotations can be moved between pages via drag-and-drop. The continuous view option is available in both single-page and facing-page views.

"Many PDFpen customers prefer to view PDFs by scrolling through the pages, rather than paging up or down," said Philip Goward, SmileOnMyMac co-founder and PDFpen developer. "Now that we've made this viewing option available, those customers can use their PDF editing tool as their default PDF reader, instead of Preview or Adobe Reader."

AppleScript support for OCR (Optical Character Recognition) has also been added to this update, along with minor improvements and bug fixes.

With TextExpander, users can define abbreviations for frequently-used text strings and images, also known as snippets. When an abbreviation is typed, it expands automatically to the full snippet.

The Internet Productivity snippet group offers predefined snippets that work with the URL shortening services via AppleScript to automatically shorten URLs copied to the Clipbard. A snippet for the shortening service is.gd has been added in this update, joining TinyURL, tr.im, and bit.ly snippets.

Each of the Internet Productivity snippets, which use AppleScript, has its own assigned abbreviation, e.g. /tinyurl, /bitly. The user copies the long URL to the Clipboard, and then types the corresponding abbreviation for the desired URL shortener. The shortened link is automatically inserted.

All the Internet Productivity snippets have been updated to support URL parameters. Complex links, such as those generated by Google Maps, can now be reliably shortened using TextExpander.

JEAN MacDONALD MADE PARTNER AT SMILEONMYMAC LLC

San Francisco, CA - January 5, 2009 - SmileOnMyMac, the Mac OS X productivity software developer, announced that Jean MacDonald, who has served as an independent marketing consultant for the company since 2004, has been made a partner in the company.

"My co-founder Greg Scown and I are pleased to announce that Jean has officially become a partner in SmileOnMyMac LLC," said Philip Goward, SmileOnMyMac co-founder. "She is smart, creative and always able to think out of the box. She's been instrumental to the success that our company has enjoyed in its first five years."
