TextExpander 3.1 Adds New Hotkeys for Search and Activation

San Francisco, CA -- June 2, 2010 -- SmileOnMyMac has released TextExpander 3.1, an update to its customizable typing shortcut tool for Mac OS X. With TextExpander, users can define abbreviations for frequently-used text strings and images, also known as snippets. When an abbreviation is typed, it expands automatically to the full snippet.

TextExpander 3.1 adds hotkeys to activate TextExpander and to search snippets. The TextExpander icon can now be hidden in both the Dock and the menu bar. Search has been improved with highlighting of matched text and inclusion of snippet label text in the search. Other improvements and bug fixes have been made.

http://www.smileonmymac.com/textexpander/download.html. The price is $34.95. A Family Pack license is available for $44.95, which covers up to five computers in one household. Upgrades from earlier versions of TextExpander are $15.00, and free to users who purchased after November 1, 2009. Mac OS X 10.6 or later is required.

What's new in TextExpander 3.1:

- Added hotkeys to activate TextExpander and to open the Search Snippets function
- Allows hiding Dock icon without showing TextExpander in the menu bar
- Improved search by highlighting matched text and searching snippet label text
- Supports typing by mouse with Keyboard Viewer or Virtual Keyboard
- Improved cursor position handling in Google Chrome and Firefox
- Other fixes and improvements

- Correct typos automatically
- Organize snippets into groups
- Add snippet groups from external files and online sources
- HTML, CSS, Autocorrect, Accented Word, Symbol snippet groups included
- Internet Productivity snippet group (shorten long URLs automatically)
- Sync snippets via MobileMe and Dropbox
- Insert the current date and time in any format you prefer
- Date/time math (add or subtract years, months, days, hours, minutes, seconds from current date and time)

- Print snippets by group
- Position the cursor wherever you want in your expanded snippet; use fill-ins for snippets with multiple blank fields for variable content
- For programmers, make editor-independent code templates; invoke AppleScripts and shell scripts
- Available in English, German, French, Japanese and Italian
