Help: Transitioning to PDFpenPro 11

Welcome to PDFpenPro 11 . While you will recognize the familiar interface, we thought you could use a guide to some of the new things you will see.

A very special thank you to everyone who sent in feedback over the years. We want to encourage you to continue to let us know what you want. We hope the following walk-through of version 11 shows that we take your feedback to heart.

What’s different from PDFpenPro 10?

Simplifying and streamlining the PDF editing process is always a top priority. In version 11 we’re including some indispensable features for editing and accessing documents, as well as many other updates and improvements. Here are some highlights:

Split-view mode for editing

Need to refer to one part of a document while working on another? How about comparing two pages? PDFpenPro 11 adds the ability to quickly and simultaneously view different parts of a document at once. Found in Window > Split, you can split the screen horizontally or vertically. Now you can simplify editing by reducing the number of open tabs or windows.

New Font Bar for expressive font control

You have always been able to manipulate text content in PDFs. Thanks to your suggestions, we’ve added a new Font Bar. Now you can quickly see and select font typeface, size, style, and justification when editing documents. Reveal or hide the Font Bar by choosing View > Show Font Bar. Font information will display for selected text and new text imprints created with the Text Tool.

PDFpenPro users, choose your font typeface, size, style, and justification while creating interactive text fields with the Text Field Tool. Changes to text properties will be made seamlessly without the additional step of opening the font window (Cmd+T).

Import scans from Continuity Camera

On the move and lacking a scanner? PDFpenPro 11 offers another solution to enhance your paperless workflow: Continuity Camera support. Save time by using PDFpenPro along with Continuity Camera for scanning. Simply launch PDFpenPro, choose File > Import from iPhone or iPad > Scan Documents, opening the camera app on your iPhone or iPad. The scan will appear instantly in PDFpenPro. From PDFpenPro, edit your scan, compress file size, OCR, archive and more—all on the go.

Customize page-number locations

PDF designs vary, and there are times when page content bleed into the margins. PDFpenPro 11 provides the ability to customize page-number locations in greater detail to accommodate these particular cases. Found in the Header, Footer, Page Number dialog, reveal "Advanced Options" and specify margins under Margin Positioning.

Add multiple items to the PDFpenPro Library at once

The PDFpenPro Library is a favorite tool for many users. By popular demand, users can now select and add multiple items simultaneously to the custom section of the Library. Simply hold down the Shift key to select multiple objects as a unit and add “Selected Imprint” to the Library's Custom tab. Your objects—as a single item—will be saved to the PDFpenPro Library for reuse.

PDFpenPro users, you can now save frequently used Form Fields in the Library as well!

Option to turn off guides

Another popular request, while alignment guides—red lines you see when you move an object—are helpful, it can sometimes be a distraction. PDFpenPro 11 enables you to choose whether you want alignment guides on or off. Under PDFpen > Preferences > Editing, check or uncheck the box next to “Show guides".

Medical/Legal Dictionaries for OCR (English language only)

PDFpenPro’s built-in medical and legal dictionaries improve the OCR output of scanned documents by recognizing terminology specific to the medical and legal professions. This feature is integrated into PDFpenPro, so there is no need to adjust any setting.

Automatic deskew independent of OCR

Previously, automatic deskew was available with OCR. Previously, automatic deskew was available with OCR. Now, choose Edit > Deskew Page/ Document to automatically deskew a page or document at your discretion.

Option to specify default zoom

Have a preferred zoom level? Choose Preferences > General, and under “Default zoom” select 100%, 150%, “Fit to Page,” or “Fit to Width.” Your settings will remain persistent across multiple different documents.

Specify Facing Pages settings for individual documents

PDFpenPro will remember settings for Facing Pages view per individual document. If you have View > Facing Pages selected, choose “Pages right-to-left” or “Start with cover.” Settings will remain persistent each time you open the document.

Improved Sidebar

You asked, we delivered.

  • Under Sidebar > Annotations view, see your lines, scribbles, and shapes!
  • Thumbnail sizes remain persistent.
  • PDFpenPro users, Table of Content entries now wrap, simplifying navigation and editing.
  • Select and edit multiple form fields at once

PDFpenPro users can now edit Form Element Properties for multiple form fields at once, saving time. Use the Shift or Command keys with the Edit tool to select more than one field. Under Inspector > Form Element Properties, specify properties for your chosen fields such as “Required” or “Multi-line.”
