PDFpen 5.8.1 Adds Screen Width to View Options

San Francisco, CA – May 8, 2012 – Smile has released PDFpen 5.8.1, an update to its popular and affordable PDF editor for Mac OS X. “Zoom to Width” has been added to the menu and toolbar to set the zoom to fill the available display width. Screen width has also been added as an initial window size preference.

The update also includes improvements to OCR and text selection accuracy, as well as other improvements and minor fixes. The changes in PDFpen 5.8.1 have also been made in PDFpenPro 5.8.1, the Pro version that can also convert websites into PDFs, create fillable PDF forms, and construct document table of contents.

PDFpen retails for $59.95, PDFpenPro for $99.95. The Family Pack, for home use, is $74.95 for PDFpen and $119.95 for PDFpenPro. Office Pack licenses, which cover 5 users in an office, are $179.95 for PDFpen and $279.95 for PDFpenPro.

Upgrades from earlier versions of either application are $25.00, and free to users who purchased on or after February 14, 2010. Upgrades from any version of PDFpen to PDFpenPro 5.8.1 are $40.

PDFpen 5.8.1 and PDFpenPro 5.8.1 require Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or later and 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo processor. What’s New in PDFpen 5.8.1:
– Adds screen width as an initial window size preference
– Adds menu and toolbar “Zoom to Width” commands which sets the zoom to fill all available display width
– Improves OCR accuracy by suppressing the use of ligatures
– Improves text selection accuracy in a number of cases
– Adds a confirmation prompt before allowing the Edit > Reset Form command to proceed
– Adds an error recovery prompt when attempting to save a document to iCloud with a duplicate name
– Adds ability to insert text imprints from the library via a double-click
– Fixes an issue which caused a gradual shift in color when using text fields
– Other minor fixes and improvements

– Copy and paste rich text; retain fonts and formatting when copying from PDFs

– Add (and print) notes and comments
– Mark up documents with highlighting, underscoring and strikethrough
– Save frequently-used images, signatures, objects and text in the Library
– Save PDFs directly to Evernote
– Convert a website into a multi-page PDF document (requires PDFpenPro)
